Oslo Cycling Guide

Norway

Arguably closer to nature than any other capital city, Oslo offers easy access to stunningly beautiful rides. There’s a variety of terrain to explore, too, from scenic lakefront routes to arduous (but rewarding!) climbs.

  1. Nordmarka

    • Distance 91.9 mi
    • Elevation 8,450 ft

Surrounding the northern border of Oslo is Nordmarka, an incredible forest and no-build zone. This route takes riders on paved roads around and through Oslo's playground. A lengthy and scenic loop, cyclists are able to test their legs against their friends every May when the Sportsklubben Rye Cycling Club hosts their popular annual race, Nordmarka Rundt. With over 2,500m of climbing, riders will want to make a pit stop in Jevnaker to refuel — unless you're racing, of course!

  2. Climb to Tryvann and Sørkedalen

    • Distance 31.0 mi
    • Elevation 3,579 ft

Ride Norway's Alpe d'Huez, Tryvann, on this popular route. This classic ride starts in the center of Oslo and passes through two scenic parks, Slottsparken (the castle park) and Vigelandsparken (the sculpture park), before you begin climbing up Tryvann. After a hard effort up this magnificent ascent, there is nothing better than spinning out the lactic acid through the Sørkedalen Valley before returning to the city center.

Short, flat, and picturesque, this out and back is incredibly easy to access and hard to get lost on. Whether you're hammering it or taking it easy and enjoying the views, Maridalen will not disappoint.
