The Tan

Melbourne’s most popular running route, ‘The Tan’ lap is 3.827km around and suited for runners of all abilities. The majority of the track is gravel, Anderson Street the only exception. Check out the list of Top 10 male and female fastest times recorded on the pillar at the horseshoe start and don’t forget to stop in and enjoy a coffee at one of the cafes along Domain Road once you’re done. Albert Park Loop

The Albert Park Lake running track is a 4.7km track not far from the heart of Melbourne that loops this famous lake following the same course as the Formula One racing track. The track is well maintained and the course is almost perfectly flat from start to finish. Beautiful views across the lake make this a very enjoyable run but be sure to watch out for swans who frequently wander across the track!

The Thousand Steps is a challenging hill climb at the base of the scenic Dandenong Ranges. The severity of the incline makes successfully walking the trail a more common goal than running it. Try and enjoy the views on your way up!

A shared use path for both runners and cyclists, The Capital City Trail is conveniently located and full of options. Following the Yarra River and connecting with plenty of trails, runners can see a heap of Melbourne on foot. The Maribyrnong River loop is situated in the heart of Aberfeldie and runs just over 4km in length. The popular location is a fantastic area for those who are looking to get a bit of exercise in, before heading to any number of popular cafes for a coffee and something to eat. The track itself is great for people of all abilities, as it has both a footpath and grass for those looking to exercise on softer terrain. It is also popular for those wishing to increase the distance in their workload, as the paths continue much further on.
